Hello aspirants, we are going to discuss about the Combined Defense Service Examination in this article. We are trying to cover everything related to that exam, and we hope that this article will be of use for all those who want to know what is CDSE.

CDSE or Combined Service Examination is a written exam which is conducted twice every year, generally in the month of February and August.  The notification for the exam comes in the month of December and June. This is one the modes for the graduates to choose defense as their career option.

It is conducted by Union Public Service Commission, which is called UPSC in abbreviated form.

How to apply for it?

The mode of application for this exam is online only. Male candidates have to pay a minimal fee of 200 to apply for this exam, while female candidates and some special candidates have a fee concession.

Both male and female candidates can apply for this exam, provided they are eligible by their age an educational qualifications.

What are the services to be applied for?

Male candidates can apply for Army (Both Short Service and Permanent Commission in Non-Tech Field, trained in Officers Training Academy and Indian Military Academy), Navy (Permanent Commission, Trained in Naval Academy) and AirForce (Permanent Commission in Flying Branch only Trained in Air Force Academy). Women can only apply for Indian Army, Short Service Commission in Non-tech Field, trained in

• 19-24 Years: Indian Military Academy
• 19-22 Years: Naval Academy
• 19-23 Years: Air Force Academy
• 19-25 Years: Officers’ Training Academy

What is the CDSE educational qualification?

• IMA & OTA: Degree of a recognized University or equivalent
• Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg
• Air Force Academy: B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engg

What is the CDSE cut off?

The Cutoff varies for different academies. For AirForce it is the highest. It depends on the aspirants and how much they score that year. You can refer to the cutoff’s for different years and analyze the cutoff for yourself

What is the scope for the CDSE?

• Indian Military Academy
• Naval Academy and
• Air Force Academy
• English (Objective type)
• General Knowledge (Objective type)
• Elementary Mathematics (Objective type)

100 Marks Each (Total 300)

For each right answer you get 3 marks, and a deduction of one mark for every wrong answer.
